The European Commission unveiled on 30 June 2016 its proposal for the 2017 EU Budget, amounting to a total of €134.9 billion in payments.

The EC focused the draft budget on two main policy priorities for the European Union: supporting the recovery of the EU economy and addressing the security and humanitarian challenges in the EU's neighbourhood.

Both the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union had already provided their own perspective on the 2017 budget.
