Romania's Immigration Office (IGI) announced on 23 February 2016 that the country planned to receive a total of 6,205 refugees over two years, with the first wave expected in March 2016.

Romania was one of the country who voted against the relocation scheme, originally proposed by the European Commission but adopted by the Council of the European Union with only a qualified majority.
