Growth, jobs, freedom, security, justice, energy union and a stronger EU in the world: these are the top priorities for the Council as agreed by the three EU Presidencies for the period between January 2016 and June 2017, the Netherlands, Slovakia and Malta, the so-called ‘trio’, plus the High Representative, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Council. The three(known collectively as the Trio Presidency) have drawn up an 18-month agenda to ensure that, in addition to the immediate challenges the EU was facing, other important issues would receive the necessary attention and commitment. It was clear that the challenge of migration and refugees would also remain high on the agenda for the Dutch, Slovak and Maltese Presidencies. |
