The Swiss Attorney General's office opened criminal proceedings against outgoing FIFA president Sepp Blatter in September 2015. He was being investigated on suspicion of criminal mismanagement and misappropriation. Two payments, involving Jack Warner and Michel Platini, formed the basis of the probe. On the 8 October 2015, in accordance with FIFA’s Code of Ethics, Joseph S. Blatter was relieved of all his duties as FIFA President following the decision of the Adjudicatory Chamber of the Independent Ethics Committee to provisionally ban him from all football activities on a national and international level. Joseph S. Blatter, for the duration of the 90-day ban, would not be allowed to represent FIFA in any capacity, act on the organisation’s behalf, or communicate to media or other stakeholders as a FIFA representative. UEFA President Michel Platini was also suspended for 90 days. Fifa's Ethics Committee banned the organisation's president Sepp Blatter and Uefa boss Michel Platini from football-related activities on the 21 December 2015 over a payment Platini received from Blatter in 2011. On the 30 December 2015 the Swiss Federal Office of Justice said it had handed over the first batch of evidence to the United States authorities as part of the investigation into alleged bribery schemes for football marketing rights. |
