The European Parliament's plenary session approved on 17 December 2015 a non-legislative resolution calling for a ban on the patenting of products obtained by conventional breeding techniques, such as crossing. MEPs considered this move essential to sustain innovation, food security and small businesses, and called on the Commission to clarify existing EU rules as a matter of urgency and to protect plant breeders’ access to biological material. |
