Proposal for a Council Decision on the position to be taken on behalf of the European Union, in respect of the decisions to be adopted by Eurocontrol’s Permanent Commission, on the roles and tasks of Eurocontrol and on centralised services

The present proposal concerns the position to be taken in Eurocontrol's Permanent Commission regarding, on the one hand, the definition of Eurocontrol's roles and tasks and, on the other, Eurocontrol's activity in the area of Centralised Services. A meeting of that Commission is scheduled for 8-9 December 2015, on which these two items will be dealt with.

The background is the particular position of Eurocontrol's activity, which in some ways overlaps with Union activity, in areas covered by Union legislation. Over the last decade, efforts have been undertaken to avoid such overlaps and to come to the best possible results in view of the available resources on both sides. As a result, Eurocontrol performs tasks under the Single European Sky (SES) legislation. In addition, Eurocontrol is a founding member together with the Union in the SESAR Joint Undertaking (since 2007).
