Press Release: Environment MEPs oppose new GM maize authorization

The European Parliament's environment committee approved a resolution on 1 December 2015 opposing the European Commission's intention to authorise the use of glyphosate-tolerant GM maize NK603xT25 in food and feed.

The committee defended that the EC should suspend any authorisations for GM food and feed as long as the general procedure was under review. The proposal released by the EC on this issue had been rejected by the EP in October 2015.

This position was confirmed by the European Parliament's plenary session on 16 December.
