Juncker opens the door to EU-Eurasian Union rapprochement

In a letter reportedly sent by European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker to Russia's president Vladimir Putin in November 2015, it was suggested the European Union and the Eurasian Union could build closer ties once a ceasefire in Ukraine was implemented.

The letter was written following the G20 summit in Turkey and was coolly received by Russian authorities. Some countries in Eastern Europe showed their surprise and concern over the Commission's move.
