The European Parliament's economic and monetary affairs committees offered a lukewarm welcome on 13 October 2015 to the European Commission's proposal to make it mandatory for member states to exchange information on their tax rulings.

However, the report by MEP Markus Ferber, voicing dismay at the proposal’s limited scope and late entry into force, had already been overtaken by the Council of the European Union on 6 October, which watered down the Commission's draft law even further.

The plenary of the parliament shared the views of the committee's report on 27 October.
