Press Release: King Felipe of Spain: Europe cannot let refugees down

Spain's King Felipe VI addressed the European Parliament plenary on 7 October 2015. The King called on the European Union to trate the refugee crisis with 'generosity, solidarity and responsibility'. The monarch stressed the suffering of those who come to Europe 'fleeing violence and fanaticism'.

Felipe VI visited the Parliament for the first time following his working visit in April 2015. His father King Juan Carlos I appeared at the Parliament twice: in 1986 months after Spain joined the European Communities and again in 1989.
