Hundreds of Bulgarian companies, supported by trade unions, demonstrated in several parts of the country on 29 July 2015 against a planned 20% increase in electricity prices for industrial consumers. The Bulgarian government also came out against the decision.

The energy regulator saw this increase as an effort to tackle the considerable deficit in a sector seen as inefficient. This decision had already been delayed following previous protests.

Electricity costs are a politically sensitive issue in Bulgaria, where protests over high bills toppled a government in 2013.
