EUObserver reported in July 2015 on the launch of a news agency aimed at providing information to counter Russian propaganda.

The decision was announced by Dutch foreign minister Bert Koenders on 20 July 2015, in a joint initiative with Poland. Mr Koenders expected other European countries joined the project later on. A donors' conference was held in Warsaw on 10 September by Poland's foreign ministry.

This platform would provide reliable information tools for Russian-speaking media and social media to present and spread an alternative perspective on reality.

This news agency is born out of a Dutch-funded study on counter-propaganda by the European Endowment for Democracy (EED).
