Press Release: The court called upon to decide on parental responsibility also has jurisdiction to rule on the maintenance allowance payable by one of the parents in favour of his or her minor children

The Court concludes that, where the court of a Member State is seised of proceedings involving divorce or legal separation while the issue of parental responsibility is being brought before a court of another Member State, the application relating to maintenance of one of the parents in respect of that parent’s minor children is ancillary to the proceedings concerning parental responsibility and must therefore be examined by the court with jurisdiction in those matters (namely the UK court in this case).
