Ashley Mote, a former member of the European Parliament on a UKIP ticket between 2004 and 2009, was jailed over conviction of 12 charges relating to claims for payments to people he said were whistleblowers.

The offences included fraud, acquiring criminal property and false accounting. Mr Mote was sentenced to five years in prison.
