UK vote on European Union ‘will not be on 5 May’

The referendum on whether or not the UK should remain in the European Union will not take place on 5 May 2016, the United Kingdom government said on the 15 June 2015. Ministers tabled an amendment to the EU referendum bill ruling out a vote on that date to avoid it diminishing the impact of elections in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales on that day.
