On 12 May 2015, President of the European Council Donald Tusk welcomed the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili on his first official visit to Brussels.

This was an occasion to reaffirm the European Union's strong commitment to the Eastern Partnership and the objective of developing strengthened, closer, and differentiated relations between the EU and its sovereign, independent Eastern partner states.
