According to a report published by German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung on 29 April 2015, the BND, the German intelligence service, listened in on officials from the French presidency and foreign affairs ministry, as well as the European Commission. Phone tapping was done from the BND’s Bad Aibling spying station in Bavaria and information was transmitted to US National Security Agency (NSA) under an agreement signed in 2002. In 2013-2014, Germany heavily criticised the United States for the NSA's mass spying on Europeans and even Chancellor Angela Merkel. |
