Varieties of social dumping in an open labour market: the Irish experience of large-scale immigration and the regulation of employment standards

This policy brief examines the impact of recent immigration on employment conditions in two sectors, namely, construction and hospitality, in Ireland.

The paper shows that immigration made it easier for employers to pursue social dumping practices, thereby contributing to the informalisation and casualisation of work in these sectors. The author concludes with some policy recommendations.
