For the first time since 2007, the economies of all European Union Member States were expected to grow again in 2015, according to the European Commission's winter forecast issued in February 2015. Over the course of 2015, economic activity was expected to pick up moderately in the EU and in the euro area, before accelerating further in 2016. Growth in 2015 was forecasted to rise to 1.7% for the EU as a whole and to 1.3% for the euro area.
