Features during the final days of the election campaign in Greece before the election was held on the 25 January 2015. The BBC reported that the leader of Greek left-wing party Syriza, Alexis Tsipras, said in an election rally on the 22 January 2015 an end to 'national humiliation' was near, as opinion polls put the party ahead three days before the general election. He asked the Greek people to give his party the chance to govern independently while challenging the austerity policies of the country’s international creditors. However, the European Central Bank’s decision on the 22 January 2015 not to extend its quantitative easing program to Greece unless it concluded the pending troika review was confirmation that the country could find itself stranded if it elected a SYRIZA government, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras argued. |
