The Macedonian parliament approved on 21 January 2015 a constitutional amendment which defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

According to several gay rights associations, the decision to ban same-sex marriage was a further blow to its marginalized civil society and would entrench discrimination against LGBT people in the country.

The change would have to be confirmed in a final vote later in the week.
