EU Commission joins Grexit debate

The European Commission stressed on the 5 January 2015 that according to the EU treaties a Greek exit from the Eurozone is not possible. If that's the case there is no means to put pressure on states to reform, some commentators wrote. Others believed the Union has no option but to grant Greece a complete debt write-down.

European Parliament president Martin Schulz also criticised on 7 January 2015 the German speculation on Greece leaving the euro.
