European Union's ambassador to Ghana, William Hanna, stated that the EU would only restore its €200 million grant to the West African country after it resolved an issue with 'ghost workers' in the public administration, which was inflating the state's payroll.

The EU had decided to suspend its financial assistance to Ghana in 2013 after the rise of a fiscal crisis which has been hitting the country's economy. Mr Hanna said that any resumption would also depend on the outcome of government talks with the International Monetary Fund on a financial assistance programme.
