South Stream demise leads Croatia to revive gas terminal project

Encouraged by the collapse of the South Stream project [click here for more information], Croatian authorities revived the idea of building a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) import terminal at the deepwater oil port of Omisalj, on the island of Krk.

Croatian Economy Minister Ivan Vrdoljak said on 7 December 2014 the government would declare the Krk terminal a 'strategic project' in the following weeks. The terminal was already on a list from the European Union of 30 projects it considers important for energy security.
