ECHR under pressure on Swiss anniversary

The Swiss are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the ratification of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), but not everyone is joining the party. The landmark treaty and its Strasbourg-based court are under attack, most notably from the rightwing Swiss People’s Party.

Similar criticism was being expressed by certain interests in Russia and the United Kingdom.
