Ponta loses ethnic Hungarian coalition partner

Romania's ruling coalition splintered on 27 November 2014 after the ethnic Hungarian UDMR party announced it would leave Prime Minister Victor Ponta's government.

Mr Ponta lost the presidential election earlier in the month after losing the second round against Klaus Iohannis (click here for more information). The incoming president later announced his party could try to topple the government in 2015.
