Obesity researcher says the EU’s new sugar quotas will increase diabetes rates

Per Bendix Jeppesen, an obesity researcher, told journalists that the liberalisation of European sugar market planned for 2017 would result in a dramatic increase in obesity and diabetes in the European Union.

In 2017, the EU Common Organisation of the Market in the sugar sector is set to bring an end to production quotas by country, and market price support, which allows European producers to sell their unsold stock at a minimum price guaranteed by the EU.
