This report gives an overview of the implementation of Regulation (EC) No 765/2008 (also 'the Regulation') setting out the requirements for accreditation and market surveillance relating to the marketing of products and repealing Regulation (EEC) No 339/93. This Regulation applies from 1 January 2010. Its main objective is to ensure that products on the Single Market covered by Union legislation fulfil the applicable requirements, which provide a high level of protection of health and safety and other public interests. To this purpose the Regulation establishes a framework for accreditation and market surveillance. The report was prepared in cooperation with the Member States through the 'SOGS', i.e. the Senior Officials Group for Standardisation and Conformity Assessment Policy and the ad hoc market surveillance group called ‘SOGS-MSG’. This report also evaluates the relevance of the conformity assessment, accreditation and market surveillance activities that receive Union financing in the light of the requirements of EU policies and legislation. |
