A Private Member’s Bill was introduced to the United Kingdom House of Commons on 2 July 2014. It would have introduced into law the requirement to hold a referendum on the UK’s continued membership of the European Union (EU) before the end of 2017.

This Bill had been re-introduced following an identical Private Member’s Bill failing to complete all stages in the House of Lords in January 2014 after being sent from the House of Commons.

EurActiv reported on the 29 October 2014 that chances of the July 2014 bill becoming law had lessened after the Liberal Democrats coalition partners had blocked the legislation.
