Parliament elects new European Commission

Members of the European Parliament approved the new college of 27 Commissioners, as presented by its President-elect Jean-Claude Juncker on the 22 October 2014, with 423 votes in favour, 209 against and 67 abstentions. The new Commission now needed to be formally appointed by EU heads of state or government (probably on the 23 October 2014 at the European Council) to enable it to take up duty on 1 November 2014 for a five-year term.
