The European Commission on the 7 August 2014 announced that an EU-funded research project called EVERYAWARE has developed two apps that help citizens monitor the levels of air and noise pollution around them. The AirProbe app, which measures exposure to air pollution, has been tested by more than 300 people, and the WideNoise app, which measures noise levels, has already been used by more than 10,000 people and was at the centre of a study around Heathrow airport. Data collected is available to all, citizens, authorities and scientists.

The EVERYAWARE project was awarded funding from the EU seventh framework programme for research and technological development (FP7), which took place from 2007 to 2013.
