French fear ‘cultural dumping’ from Netflix’s EU expansion

Netflix’s international expansion became an issue for France. On the 20 May 2014, the video-on-demand (VoD) provider and leader of the US streaming market announced that it would launch services in six more European countries by the end of 2014, including France and Germany.

On the 31 July 2014 EurActive reported that France feared that Nexflix European affiliate, based in the Netherlands, would damage the French audiovisual industry.
