On 11 June 2014, László Andor, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion welcomed the adoption by the International Labour Organization (ILO) of two new international instruments to combat forced labour, and the approval of important amendments to the ILO's Maritime Labour Convention.

The new standards were adopted at today's plenary session of the 103rd International Labour Conference, taking place in Geneva from 28 May to 12 June 2014.
