Press Release: Declaration on behalf of the European Union on the presidential elections in Egypt

In a declaration made on 5 June 2014, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy congratulated the new President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sissi, and expressed trust on his ability to deal with the various challenges faced by the country. The declaration also spoke of the importance of respecting fundamental rights and democracy, and expressed EU's readiness to support the new President with tackling these issues.
