European court orders Turkey to compensate Cyprus for 1974 invasion

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ordered the Turkish government on the 12 May 2014 to pay €90 million in compensation to Cyprus over human rights abuses committed during and after Turkey's invasion of the island in 1974.

The Turkish government condemned the ruling by the ECHR and refused to pay damages to Cyprus.
