Press Release: The council adopts provisions for financing animal and plant health measures

On 8 May 2014, the Council of the European Union adopted a regulation laying down provisions for the management of expenditure relating to the food chain, animal health and animal welfare, and relating to plant health and plant reproductive material. This adoption followed a first reading agreement with the European Parliament. The objective of this regulation was to modernise the financial provisions for this area.

This regulation was part of the 'Healthier Animals and Plants for a Safer Food Chain Package' and offered a framework to finance measures provided for in the animal health and plant health regime, the regime for production and making available on the market of plant reproductive material and the rules which govern official controls.
