Catalan referendum plan ‘illegal’, says Spain’s PM

Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy maintained that a referendum on independence for Catalonia would be 'illegal' as he delivered his annual state of the nation speech on the 25 February 2014.

Mr. Rajoy vowed to block the vote, which the Catalan authorities intended to hold on the 9 November 2014.
