Protocol amending the Air Transport Agreement between the European Union and Canada to take account of the accession of Croatia to the EU.

Background and further information:

Pursuant to Article 6(2) of the Accession Act, Croatia undertook to accede to the agreements concluded or signed by the Member States and the Union with one or more third counties or an international organisation by means of a Protocol to those Agreements.

The Agreement on Air Transport between Canada and the European Community and its Member States was signed on 17 December 2009. In September 2012 the European Commission opened negotiations with Canada concerning a Protocol to the Agreement. The negotiations were successfully completed in October 2013.

In February 2014 the Commission presented proposals for the signing and conclusion of the Protocol. The signing was approved by the Council on 8 October 2014 and the signature took place on 27 January 2017. The conclusion of the Protocol was approved on 15 April 2019 by Council Decision (EU) 2019/704.
