United Kingdom Conservative MP Nigel Mills, who had prompted the UK Government to announce restrictions on benefits claimed by EU migrants in late 2013, said in January 2014 that he still planned to table an amendment to the Immigration Bill passing through Parliament by imposing work restrictions on Romanians and Bulgarians in the UK. United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron said on the 27 January 2014 that immigration from Romania and Bulgaria looked reasonable and nothing more could be done within the law to stop workers coming over from these countries. The Immigration Bill was introduced in the House of Commons on 10 October 2013 and had its Second Reading on 22 October 2013. The Bill was considered in Public Bill Committee over 11 sittings held between 29 October and 19 November 2013. It was due to have the Report stage and Third Reading on 30 January 2014. The Bill had its Second Reading in the House of Lords on the 10 February 2014. The Guardian mentioned on the 6 March 2014 that a new report revealed little evidence that foreign migrants were putting British workers out of jobs. |
