At the Foreign Affairs Council, taking place in Brussels on 20 January 2014, the Council of the European Union adopted conclusions on Syria. According to the Council, the Geneva peace conference on Syria, taking place on 22 January 2014 in Switzerland, should be the first step in a process that will lead to a political solution to the conflict. The Council also stressed the importance of an inclusive Syrian peace process and the active and meaningful participation of women and civil society in the overall political transition process. UK Prime Minister David Cameron indicated on the 22 January 2014 that the country was ready to accept more Syrian refugees. |
