First citizens’ initiative launched in Greece

The Greek think tank "DIKTYO” (Network for Reform in Greece and Europe) presented on the 16 December 2013 a new European Citizens Initiative (ECI) called “Education is worth any cost!”.

The European Citizens' Initiative (ECI), as introduced by the Lisbon Treaty, allows citizens to request new EU legislation once one million signatures from seven member states have been collected asking the European Commission to do so.

As of December 2013, three such initiatives (Right2Water, One of Us, and Stop Vivisection) claim to have reached the target of one million signatures in the EU and a minimum number of signatures in at least seven Member States.
