EurActiv reported on the 3 December 2013 that the UK support for the EU was balanced on a knife edge with half the population ready to vote for leaving the EU the next day and far fewer people identifying the country as European, according to a new survey published by Opinium Research.

The cross-border poll by Opinium also looked at the attitudes of voters in France, Germany and Poland, as well as British business executives.

Another Opinium/Observer poll published on the 19 January 2014 suggested 52% of the British public aged over 18 would vote to leave the EU, a small increase since November 2013 when 50% said they would vote to leave.
