On 14 November 2013 European Commissioner for Development, Andris Piebalgs, announced the proposed main sectors for development cooperation with Myanmar from 2014 – 2020, during a visit to the country to participate in the first EU-Myanmar Task Force. These sectors will be rural development, education, governance and support to peace building. Although the bilateral assistance budget hasn’t been formally approved by the European Parliament and the European Council, EU support could increase up to €90 million per year. |
