With astonishment and incomprehension, many Europeans watched as Tea Party followers paralysed the US. But some politicans worry the European Union could soon find itself in a similar situation. There were fears amongst some that after the May 2014 European Parliament elections there would be the most anti-European European Parliament that had so far existed due to the rise and influence of populist Eurosceptic parties in a number of EU Member States. According to German broadcaster ARD, policy strategists in Brussels expect that after the European elections, up to 20% of MEPs will want to abolish the European Parliament. |
