Recent outbreaks of dengue and chikungunya fever in the WHO European Region, combined with the local establishment of invasive Aedes mosquito species that can transmit these diseases, confirm that indigenous transmission is possible. A regional framework has therefore been developed to improve the prevention, surveillance and control of these invasive mosquito vectors and such re-emerging diseases. The framework will help Member States to develop or update their own operational plans, harmonize plans and approaches between countries, take cross-border action and mobilize resources to implement these plans. |
