EurActiv reported on the 25 October 2013 that in Brussels, Germans have shrugged off their postwar reserve and were making no apology for shaping Europe's future, taking key posts in EU institutions and pushing Berlin's trade interests with vigour.

SOI wrote in an article on the 28 October 2013 that in her third term, Chancellor Angela Merkel hoped to shape her legacy - by reforming the European Union and reinvigorating the Continent's economy. Now she had found an unexpected ally in Social Democrat Martin Schulz, but the two have a long road ahead of them.
