The European Commission launched on 7 October 2013 a Europe-wide debate on the future of EU justice policy. The starting point for the discussion was a package of five discussion papers presented by the Commission covering European civil, criminal and administrative law, as well as the rule of law and fundamental rights in the EU. The aim of the debate was to strengthen the foundations on which the European Union is built and to complete the European area of justice in the interest of Europe's citizens and businesses. |
