On 3-4 October 2013 the UN High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development convened in New York. For the second time in history, it brought together policy makers and practitioners from around the world to reflect on a bolder approach to migration and development. European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Cecilia Malmström, represented the EU at this meeting and gave a keynote speech on migration and the post-2015 development framework and on how global efforts can be better suited to new realities, with ever-growing international mobility. The purpose of the High-level Dialogue is to identify concrete measures to strengthen coherence and cooperation at all levels, with a view to enhancing the benefits of international migration for migrants and countries alike and its important links to development, while reducing its negative implications. |
