The European Commission on 2 October 2013 adopted a communication announcing the start of an evaluation of national regulations on access to professions.

Regulated professions are professions to which access is conditional upon the possession of specific qualifications or for which the use of a specific title is protected, e.g. pharmacists or architects. Certain restrictions are necessary but they should not discourage people from applying for jobs.
