EurActiv Greece reported that Alexis Tsipras, the leader of the Greek leftist Syriza party, said in August 2013 that talk of a possible third bailout for Athens was a signal that the government had failed and that new elections were needed.

In parallel Greek Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras said on the 25 August 2013 that if Greece required a new bailout in 2014, it would be a 'much smaller' package of around €10bn with no austerity conditions attached.
